Mental Health Empowerment Project

The Mental Health Empowerment Project (MHEP) was founded as a community action effort to organize people who had been in the mental health system to claim or reclaim their lives. Their lived experience also demonstrates that through the power of mutual support, people can move from being in a state of hopelessness to finding personal satisfaction, connectedness, and a new purpose in life. They achieve this by introducing people to self-directed recovery tools that can increase mastery over physical, spiritual and emotional health, increasing “valued life experiences” by supporting community presence, participation and contribution and assisting people to find their own unique voice and connect to their personal power.
