What is Grassoots Organizing?
Grassroots organizing is a a way to bring people together from the ground up. When a need in a local community arises, everyday people come together to address the issue and take action to advocate for change. They do so by fundraising, creating and sharing petitions, canvassing, protesting, and much more!
Why is Grassroots Organizing Important?
Grassroots organizing empowers those who are directly affected by the issues that they are organizing to change, giving them direct access to improving their community. This is different from the traditional top-down model of change, where an institution enacts policies that do not always take into consideration the needs of the people most affected.
Most importantly, grassroots organizing gives anyone the power to enact change. It emphasizes the power created by and for the activists involved, and power is always shared, amplified, and encouraged within the community. They are always led by those who are intimately familiar with the goal at hand.
